Best Romance Book Trailers

Romance novels.  *Enamored sigh*  They're even better when depicted by video.  Here are a few that make me want to purchase their stories...

Pamela Clare's Defiant
Excerpt - Pamela's Website - Sallie's Review - Amazon - B&N

Meet Karl.  Hello Karl.
Karl is the model depicting hero Connor MacKinnon.
I watched this at least 12 times, then immediately sent a fan-girl email to Pamela begging her for an interview.
Warning:  This trailer creates fanatics, not just fans.

Amber Lin's Giving It Up
Excerpt - Amber's Website - Sallie's Review - Amazon - B&N

The two opening frames convinced me this novel was worth reading.
Luckily there is another minute and twenty seconds to reaffirm that impression.
This video also preceded a fan-girl email, and
this novel puts Amber Lin on my "to read" list for all time.

Victoria Vane's A Wild Night's Bride
Excerpt - Victoria's Website - Goodreads Reviews - Amazon - B&N

Seven seconds of dainty classical music then some smartass changes the station and jams to AC/DC's You Shook Me All Night Long.
How can you NOT love this?

Christine Feehan's Dark Predator
Excerpt - Christine's Website - Goodreads Reviews - Amazon - B&N

*Gulps*
After timestamps 00:16 - 00:26 I just want to offer my services as a stand-in heroine.
I have yet to send Christine any fan-girl email.
What if she doesn't like me?

Alexia Banks's Forgotten Dreams

Book Blurb - Alexia's Website - Goodreads Reviews - Amazon

This trailer is well done.
I see this and feel like I've sat inside Alexia's kitchen and shared experiences over a cup of coffee.  Or, rather, a glass of wine.

Alright fellow novel lovers, share with me your favorites and may we all bask in the hotness that is romance

Character Interview: Lady Vesta from "The Virgin Huntress" (by Victoria Vane)

*Victoria Vane is up for The Romance Review's 5 Heart Sweetheart.  Vote here.

Lady Vesta and Victoria Vane will answer your questions!  Submit them in the comment section below.
In April 2012, author Victoria Vane released her first book in The Devil DeVere series, A Wild Night’s Bride, depicting the story of Sir Edward Chambers and his beloved Phoebe.  Excited to introduce his new bride, Sir Edward rushes Phoebe to meet his daughter Lady Vesta and her godmother Baroness Diana Palmerston-Wriothesley.

Ms. Vane has now released her second book, The Virgin Huntress.  The virgin and huntress is Lady Vesta - and she hates her father's wife.  Jealous, both Lady Vesta and Baroness Diana travel to London where they meet Captain Hewett DeVere.   Despite Captain Hewett's attraction to her godmother, Vesta has decided she wants him for herself.
This is her interview.

Q:        Lady Vesta thank you for seeing me this afternoon.  I know you are probably eager to ride your horse.

Oh yes, I do love to ride! It's my favorite pastime, you know. Indeed, Papa sent my two favorite horses to London with me. No doubt it was just an effort to get back into my good graces, but I really don't know if I can ever forgive him for what he did!  Have you ever heard such a daft thing as marrying someone you've only known for three days? And Phoebe is barely five years older than I am!

I'm sorry! I seem to have digressed.  I never ride in the afternoons you see, not in Hyde Park anyway because the fashionable world does not approve of real riding. No, I  prefer the mornings before anyone is about. It's the only time a girl can take a proper gallop. It's also the time that the Dragoons exercise! I promise you have never seen such a magnificent sight as the 17th Light Dragoons on parade! Their uniforms alone are swoon-worthy. Can I tell you a secret, Lady Sallie? It was on one of these early morning rides that I first espied Captain Hewett DeVere, the man I intend to marry.

Q:        Three days is short.  How long have you known Captain DeVere and when did he voice his intention to marry you?

Three days is ludicrous for my Papa to take a wife! As for Captain DeVere, I met him the day before yesterday and although he hasn't exactly proposed, I'm certain I can make him love me…if only I could just get him away from my godmother Diana. After all, how can he even notice my existence when she is stealing his attention all the time? It's not fair at all! She's already been wed once. Don't you think she should give other girls a chance?

Q:     Captain DeVere recently escorted you and Baroness Diana on a horseback ride through the park and you had an accident.  You fainted - and in Captain DeVere’s arms no less.

Oh yes! It was quite terrifying! I lost my reins when my horse spooked for no apparent reason and bolted through the park. I don't know what I should have done had not the gallant Captain Hew rescued me. It was just in the nick of time too as Artemis (that's my favorite mare) had taken it into her head to jump the hedgerow into Kensington Gardens! The entire ordeal was such a shock that I took a faint and didn't recover for over an hour!

Q:        Terrifying and surprising, especially since you’re an accomplished rider.  Did your accident have anything to do with Captain DeVere’s interests in the Baroness?

Well… um…er…I'm not certain how I can really answer that question… suffice to say Aunt Di has been completely monopolizing Captain Hew since we came to London.

Q:      Tell me about your maid, Polly.  She seems to be a handful offering her opinions on how you should act to become a lady.

Polly? Why on earth would you ask about Polly? And she's not really my maid anyway. She's my godmother's maid and thinks she knows everything! She shows me no respect at all and she's too saucy by half! My godfather said it's because she's borrowed and borrowed maids are always an inferior lot. I would have to agree with him, but he and I seem to be of one accord on many things. I'm so very fortunate to have such an understanding godfather as Lord DeVere. He seems to be the only one who ever takes my side.

Q:        Does Lord DeVere take your side regarding your pursuit of Captain DeVere?  Do you think he has ulterior motives, like perhaps wanting Baroness Diana for himself?

Uncle Vic and Aunt Di? (laughs) They are like chalk and cheese! I can't imagine them together at all! But then again Uncle Vic would certainly be a better match for Aunt Di than  Hew. No, Aunt Di and Captain Hew would not suit at all! Besides, I just know he will be mad for me… if I can only just get him alone…

Q:      I’m certain he will.  So how are you going to get him alone? Won't that force his hand?

Force? (makes a face)  I'm sure I don't know what you mean by that!
A real lady is NEVER forceful. No, a lady must always be complaisant and demure, at least that's the peal Polly is always ringing over my head!
But then again, perhaps under the right… conditions… Captain Hew might be persuaded.

The Virgin Huntress (by Victoria Vane)

The Virgin Huntress rating: 4 out of 5 stars
Release Date: June 29, 2012
The Devil DeVere series rating: 3.5 out of 5 stars

The Virgin Huntress is novella #2 in this novella series and is best enjoyed when read in order, but can be read as a stand alone novel.
.
Novella #1, A Wild Night's Bride, will be sold for .99 cents from June 22 - June 29

How are the sex scenes?
Sweet, surprising and sexy. This is a novella so there aren't many, but they are well written and have comedic flare.

How are the story lines?
You'd think a novella would give you one single-minded plot, but that is not so with this series. The Virgin Huntress follows the hero and heroine on a *truly* one-of-a-kind adventure while introducing the story for the next novella.

Would you read it again?
Yes, I think so.

Summary

Lady Vesta Chambers flees her father's estate, and his new bride Phoebe, with her godmother Diana and escapes to London for her coming-out season.

Viscount Ludovic "The Devil" DeVere, and his brother Captain Hewett DeVere are both bound by friendship and duty to keep watch over Lady Vesta during her stay.

It's love at first sight when Lady Vesta spies Captain Hewett, yet even though he's in need of an heir his eyes are drawn to the much older Diana. Lady Vesta refuses to relinquish her "claim", devising schemes and plots to win his heart.

Review

The Virgin Huntress by Victoria Vane is a historical romance novel set in 1783 London.
.
Sir Edward Chambers and Phoebe Scott (A Wild Night's Bride's hero and heroine) just returned home to Yorkshire and Sir Edward's daughter, Lady Vesta, throws a hissy fit all the way to London because she is no longer the sole receiver of her father's affections.

Lady Vesta is the most irritating, spoiled, closed-minded, sheltered and selfish brat most readers will ever encounter. I loathe her...and thank Vane with every hateful thought. Lady Vesta acts like any other 18-year-old girl would act when her father brings home his 22-year-old wife. Vesta is charming (when she wishes it) and she makes an utter fool of herself over a man that's far beyond her reach.
;
Bravo, Vane, bravo. Practically every female in the world has done this and can either 1) relate to Vesta because they remember exactly how this feels, or 2) snub their noses at her because they have buried those embarrassments so deep they don't even remember the years 15-25.

The story is a detailed one with great secondary characters, two of whom will be the feature couple of The Devil You Know (#3) and The Devil's Match (#4). Again, this is a novella and many fall victim to a predicable plot with "I love yous" being tossed out by page 30 and babies coming by the next morning. Not I, said Victoria Vane. I did not read this book's blurb (on purpose) and when the story started I was uncertain whom the hero would be. Not because it wasn't clear, but because Vane wrote it that way.  I enjoyed that.

When Vesta goes ape shit throwing herself at Captain Hewett, he, of course, behaves the perfect gentleman. Vane is genius. True to the time period, any man who acts less - even in the face of bipolarism - is considered an unhonorable rake.

I want to praise so many things Vain did with this book, but I refuse to give even an inkling of a spoiler. Yet I will say this: When Lady Vesta falls in love every character in this book tells her it is way too soon. Even when demonstrating her "love", Vane writes it more as jealously and competitiveness than affection.

*Hell yes.* That is a reaction I can believe in. Praise the writing gods for having these adults call Vesta on her bullshit.

The only time The Virgin Huntress reads like a novella is when it ends about 50,000 words too soon. But hats off to Vane again, because there's an epilogue.

The Virgin Huntress is witty, entertaining and such an original piece of work that everyone should give it a go. If for no other reason than to meet the ever endearing, psychotic Vesta.
