Enchanting Ella: Making Friends Online

How is it that we seem to be able to make such great friends online?  This will be a short and sweet post.  I'm feeling a little down.  I lost my grandmother yesterday.  Yet, I feel like I have a world of support and friendship oceans wide.  

I'm thankful for all that I've met on this journey and can't wait to see who else I'll meet along the way.  My doors are always open.  Support your Indie Authors and Editors and even the Bloggers.

Enchanting Ella: Sleeper Books and Social Media

Sleeper books have been exploding thanks to Facebook, Twitter and Goodreads.  

Wikipedia:  A sleeper hit, also known as a surprise hit, sleep-killer or sleeper or "over night success", refers to a piece of media that gains a sudden and unexpected success or recognition. Sleeper hits often grow in popularity over time as people promote them through word of mouth marketing.  

I feel like I have a book list in my Kindle app full of some great sleeper hits.  

I know I personally have lots of criteria before I'll share a book recommendation with a friend.  I need to make sure the book is worthy of my voice.  We all have different taste in books but there's still that slim chance that I'm going to know when someone is going to love a book as much as I do.  

Facebook, Twitter and Goodreads are great sources to determine good options as well.  Not only that but there are so many great blogs out there that share information on great new releases and books from new independent authors.  

In this wonderful world of social media, it seems to be helping yet hurting the indie authors.  By helping, they are getting their new independently published books out there for all to see, read and feel.  By hurting, they are getting their books taken from Beta form or ARC form and seeing them distributed where it shouldn't be distributed.  

It's unfortunate that there will always be some dishonest folks distributing books that shouldn't be released to the public.  However, I try to always see the good out there and will always feel that the Beta copies and ARC opportunities should continue because it's a really really great way to get the word out on a great book.  Well that, and trusting my list of books.  ;)

My TBR list - I'll never catch up

Do you ever feel like your "To Be Read" list will ever get smaller?  


I'm having anxiety over mine lately.  Each time I finish another book, I find 5 more to add to my list.  It's like these books breed.  Like a book knows you are about to finish and it decides to make more books to add to your list.  


As of today I believe I have approximately 212 books on my "To Be Read" list.  Oy!


Even if I read a book every 2-3 days I will never finish this year.  It's almost defeating.  It almost makes me crazy.  But then I remember that I'm not alone.  I know people that have longer lists than me!

Enchanting Ella: Hero Types

With so many genres in Romance, we have many many choices in hero types.  I find myself enjoying books with a hero who is strong, determined and successful.  However, lately - the damaged ones have been catching my eye.  

Tough and rugged.  That's another type out there that can be enjoyable to read about.  Even if it all comes back to storyline, the character has to be a big part of the success of the book.  We as readers require a hero with heart.  He should also have a protective side, always willing to save his heroine from danger.  

Of course it doesn't hurt if he has lots of muscles and even some nice tattoos if you so desire.  I so desire.  I myself fall for the Alpha.  Although I've been known to also swoon over the Beta hero a time or two also.  There are so many ways that a hero can be written.  The especially damaged hero is hard to read about at first but when you see the change take place and see the growth that the hero goes through in order to be "worthy" of his heroine, that right there is magic.  

A great writer can bring the hero to life right from the pages of the book.  I've found quite a few of these heroes recently and fell in love with the them based on the writer's interpretation of their character.

Enchanting Ella: Animal Magnetism & the Single Scene

Ever watch National Geographic and realize that we as humans are not that different from the animal world?  As a single female, you would assume that dating would be easy considering marriage statistics are down indicating more single people live in the world.  Not the case.  As we age, the scene changes and we lose the options we had when we were younger.  The chances of meeting your potential mate become vastly smaller with the dating scene as regional as the animal world.  Herds migrate and the competition is brutal in some locations.  We as humans dress to impress much like a monkey grooms their fur.  From the most violent mating battles to the subtlest courting rituals, we are very similar.   

This might be the very reason that women have now been dubbed cougar, panther or puma.  It’s the human relation to the animal world.  Older women are no longer afraid to search for a younger mate.  More women are single into their later years.  What is it that truly defines an older female as a cougar, panther or puma?  At what age is the man considered a cub to her cougar?  

       

Speaking of Cougars, you very rarely find a Romance novel with the scenario of an older female and a younger male.  Why is that?  Are the writers afraid of the repercussions from their audience?  Because Romance novels are such a great escape from the real world, I’d love to read a fantasy book about an older woman who meets a younger hero.  That’s what fiction is supposed to be all about right?  Fiction authors were meant to fulfill our fantasies and our dreams escaping the realities of life.
